The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a drone near the sensitive India-Bangladesh border in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Saturday night. The drone was found in Durgapur-Barojdihi village, located more than 2,000 meters inside Indian territory from the border.
The discovery initially raised concerns, particularly given the recent drone attacks from Pakistan along India's northwest borders. However, BSF sources quickly moved to allay public fears, clarifying that the recovered drone appears to be a consumer-grade device, rather than one designed for more sophisticated or potentially malicious purposes.
"The drone recovered in Murshidabad is like the one commonly used by photographers to cover events," a BSF source explained, emphasizing the device's limited capabilities. This assessment suggests that the drone's presence, while unusual, does not pose the same level of threat as the advanced drones involved in cross-border conflicts.
The BSF source further detailed the drone's technical specifications, stating, "This drone only has a range of 400-500 meters, a flying time of 15-20 minutes, depending on the battery being used, an inbuilt 4k camera, and no load-carrying capacity." These limitations further support the assessment that the drone is a standard consumer model.
Officials emphasized the distinction between this particular drone and the more advanced models that have been a focus of recent discussions related to the India-Pakistan conflict. The BSF source stated, "Therefore, it should not be seen and equated with the kind we have been listening to these days," referring to the more sophisticated drones used in hostile situations.
